Application Period Open for NRCS' EQIP WaterSmart - EL 86.4 Priority Area

Great news! On-farm work for the Odessa Groundwater Replacement Program (OGWRP) EL 86.4 system is moving forward. We are working with producers to help sign up for NRCS' EQIP WaterSmart Program now through March 12th.

Last fall Columbia Basin Conservation District (CBCD) partnered with NRCS to submit a proposal for EL 86.4 on-farm infrastructure to replace groundwater irrigation with Columbia River surface water for high-value irrigated farmland currently relying on the rapidly declining Odessa Subarea Aquifer. The project has been awarded $2,500,000 for producer contracts to implement irrigation pipeline, booster pumps, and conservation cover.

"Securing dedicated funding for the OGWRP has been one of our highest priorities. We knew there would be stiff competition for federal funding and success would hinge on strong support at all levels. We have the support and the funding," Harold Crose, Resource Conservationist with CBCD.

Learn more about the project on NRCS' website here.

Thank you, NRCS and East Columbia Basin Irrigation District, for all of your support and close coordination. Teamwork makes the dreamwork! CBCD staff will reach out to EL 86.4 producers to assist with the application process. If you have any questions, please contact:
